Marshal's Office

The Office of the Marshal is responsible for maintaining the Court's buildings and overseeing the Court's personnel and financial matters. In addition the Marshal's Office is responsible for opening court and keeping order in the courtroom as well as operating the Court's library and maintaining the Court's computer network.

Marshal Kevin Taylor

 

R. Kevin Taylor was appointed as Marshal for the First District Court of Appeal in December 2017.  Previously he was a Police Sergeant with the Tallahassee Police Department from February 1989 until his retirement November 30, 2017 after more than 28 years of dedicated service.

Marshal Taylor held positions in the Tallahassee Police Department in Patrol, Community Oriented Policing and Problem Solving, Field Training, Vice & Narcotics, North Florida Regional Domestic Security Task Force, Crime Analysis, and as an Entry Operator on the Tactical Apprehension and Control Team.  He was promoted to the rank of Sergeant in October 2007 and supervised patrol squads and the Airport Police Unit assigned to the Tallahassee International Airport for the last five years of his TPD career.  Marshal Taylor is a certified Law Enforcement Instructor for General Topics, Firearms, and Emergency Vehicle Operations.

As a lifelong resident of Tallahassee, Florida, Marshal Taylor graduated from Amos P. Godby High School in 1983, Tallahassee Community College in 1987, and the Florida State University School of Criminology in 1988 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Criminology.  He also earned a Master’s Degree in Criminology from FSU in 2008.

From 2010 until 2016 Marshal Taylor taught Criminal Justice classes as a part time Adjunct Instructor at North Florida Community College.  Classes taught include: Introduction to Criminal Justice, Criminal Law, Nature of Crime, and Criminal Justice Ethics.

Marshal Taylor is active in the community and has coached Tee Ball (2011-2012), Atom League baseball (2013-2014), and Little League baseball (2015-present).  He is also the Cubmaster for Cub Scout Pack 23 and an Assistant Scoutmaster for Boy Scout Troop 23.

Marshal Taylor has been married to Wendy Nelson Taylor since 1994 and they have three children: Wyatt, and twins, Courtney and Brandon.
